Hundreds turn out for our first Windsor Twilight Walk

Hundreds of women of all ages joined television celebrity Gail Porter and her daughter Honey for the first Windsor Twilight Walk on Saturday (8th May).

The walk was organised by Sebastian’s Action Trust and national children’s charity The Children’s Trust, who are based in Tadworth.

More than 400 participants signed up to the event, which started and finished at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton. Walkers could choose to walk 7 or 13 miles taking in the sights of Eton, Windsor and The Great Park.

Sarah Clark, Fundraising Officer for Sebastian’s Action Trust said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turn out which exceeded our expectations for a first event. There was a fantastic atmosphere - everyone really got into the spirit of the occasion. Although the walk was aimed at women it was great to see that some men and boys also took up the challenge and they were very welcome. We hope that people will join us again next May for the second Windsor Twilight Walk. We would like to thank everyone who took part and our many marshals for their support.”

The event started with a group warm up and walkers were set on their way at 6pm by Gail Porter who sounded the starting claxcn. Finishers were welcomed home with medals, goodie bags, but also pizza kindly donated by Dominos in Maidenhead. The event was also supported by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Cllr Jesse Grey who completed part of the route before going to another engagement.

The event was sponsored by Savills.

Sponsorship money is still coming in from the event and we won't have a final figure for several weeks but early indications show that walkers raised in excess of £11,000 for the two charities.
