Adventurous duo take on 'Two Bens Challenge'
How are you planning to spend your summer holiday? Relaxing in the sun, pottering in the garden, or maybe catching up on your favourite TV shows..? While their friends are winding down, two pupils from Bradfield College, Reading, will be picking themselves up off the sofa and taking on the challenge of a lifetime in aid of the Trust and another UK children’s charity.
Former Hall Grove School pupil Sam Sharpe, aged 17, and his friend Robert Jones, also 17, will be trekking, cycling and kayaking across the UK, travelling from Ben Nevis, in Scotland, all the way to London's Westminster.
Beginning their adventure on July 5th, the duo will climb and then descend from the top of Ben Nevis on a 11.7 mile trek. They will then cycle over 500 miles to Cricklade in Whiltshire, near the source of the Thames, where they will transfer to a kayak for the final leg of the challenge. They will arrive at London’s Big Ben on July 20th having travelled 154 miles in total.
Sam will be raising money for Sebastian’s Action Trust, while Robert will raise funds for national charity The Children’s Trust.
Sam said: “This will be a real challenge for both of us but we know that children with disabilities and life-threatening illnesses face their own daily challenges, so we are determined to raise as much money as possible for two very worthy causes.”
Sarah Clark, Fundraising Officer for Sebastian’s Action Trust, said: “We are extremely grateful to Sam and Robert for all the hard work and energy they have put into organising this fantastic fundraising adventure. It is great to see two young people so determined to help others – their efforts will make a real difference to both charities.”
