Sebastian's Action Trust has an amazing team of volunteers. Without them we would not be able to fulfil our mission of walking alongside families of seriously-ill children, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. Volunteers can, and do, get involved in every aspect of the Trust's work. This ranges from helping in our bookshop, driving families to medical appointments, helping us prepare for family events such as our Christmas in July party, or offering an extra pair of hands at one of our fundraising events.
We know that is not always possible to commit to volunteering on a regular basis, so volunteering at events is a great way to be able to help at a time to suit you. We have lots of events throughout the year which would not be possible without the support of volunteers. Here are some examples of how you can help:
- Serving refreshments
- Helping to run a stall at a fete
- Bucket collections
- Playing with children
We also encourage our volunteers to run their own events or support the Trust in their own local community. For example, we can support you with your own stall at your child's school fair or church event by providing prizes, Trust literature, etc. Bring a friend or involve your whole family - volunteering can be convenient and fun for everyone!
We also need help with administration, meet and greet, counting money etc in all of our locations.
We have recruited a number of volunteer 'befrienders' to work alongside our family outreach team, and we are always interested to hear from anyone else inetersted in taking on this vital volunteering role. As a befriender, the support you offer could range from a chat over a cup of tea, helping out with shopping to accompanying families of seriously-ill children to Trust events.
If you can commit regular time to a supported family near you, whether it be two hours a week or a day or two a month we would love to hear from you. We offer support to families across three areas:
Practical Support: transport, shopping, collecting prescriptions, dog walking, light housework, gardening. etc
Social Support: helping families get out into the community, supporting siblings with homework or play, accompanying families to events and appointments
Emotional Support: listening and talking to members of the family
We have a training programme in place for all new befrienders, so if this sounds of interest please email email@example.com
Our charity bookshop, Bas Books, is located on the first floor of the Princess Square Shopping Centre in Bracknell. It is run entirely by our dedictaed team of fantastic volunteers. Read more about it here To volunteer at the bookshop please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Support is vital to the work of Sebastian's Action Trust and we welcome staff from a range of organisations for volunteering opportunities. Many of the groups help out in the beautiful grounds of our respite home, the Bluebells, carrying out routine maintenance or gardening. We have a range of opportunties to suit so please email Peter@sebastiansactiontrust.org to discuss the options available.
